Returning officers on Sunday rejected candidature of Kader Siddique, Golam Maula Rony, Reza Kibria, Imran H Sarker and Hero Alom who filed nomination papers to contest the 30 December polls.

Former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria’s son Reza Kibria wanted to contested the polls from Habiganj-1 constituency.

Returning officer and Habiganj deputy commissioner Mahmudul Kabir Murad cancelled the nomination on charges of his failure to pay loan against credit card of City Bank.

Reza Kibria recently joined Gano Forum and got nomination from the party.

He told that he has to renew his credit card by paying Tk 5,500 annually. “I didn’t receive any letter of the credit card renewal as I was abroad. I'll pay the dues tomorrow."

The returning officer cancelled Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker’s nomination application as an independent candidate from Kurigram-4 constituency for not mentioning the specific number of his supporters.

Like others, Imran can appeal against the decision within three days.

Imran’s nomination was rejected as he failed to fulfill the requirement of having support of at least 1 per cent voters in the respected constituency, said district returning officer Sultana Parvin.

“There is no shortage of our supporters on the list. There may be errors in the number that can be corrected. I’ll appeal against it,” said Imran H Sarker.

Returning officer and Patuakhali deputy commissioner Md Matiul Islam Chowdhury rejected the nomination paper of BNP candidate and former member of parliament Golam Maula Rony who filed nomination for contesting polls from Patakhali-1 constituency.

Matiul Islam Chowdhury said the nomination paper of Rony was cancelled as his signature was not found in his declaration.

The nomination of Krishak Sramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Sidduqe was cancelled as he filed nomination for contesting the polls from Tangail-8 constituency.

Returning officer and Tangail deputy commissioner Md Shahidul Islam said Kader Siddique's nomination was cancelled for he is a loan defaulter.

The nomination paper of much-talked-about independent candidate for Bogura-4 constituency Ashraful Alam, popularly known as Hero Alom, was turned down by the returning officer as he could not properly submit the signatures of one per cent voters of his constituency.

Returning officer Foyez Ahmed announced his nomination paper invalid.

He said Alom submitted the list of one per cent voters of the constancy with his nomination form as per condition applicable for an independence contestant. "But during scrutiny we found there are some forged signatures. That's why we've rejected his nomination form."

Hero Alom submitted his nomination paper for contesting the election from Bogura-4 constituency as an independent contender as he failed to get Jatiya Party's ticket.

Hero Alom said he will make an appeal against the returning officer's decision. "I'm subjected to injustice through rejection of my nomination. The signature of 3,121 candidates are sufficient as the total number of voters in my area are 3,12,086, but I submitted the signatures of 3,500 voters."

He claimed that his candidature was turned down as part of a plot against him. "I'll stay in the field till the last moment as no conspiracy against me will work."

Hero Alom, who hails from Bogura district, has settled in Erulia with his spouse and children.

He is known as an internet sensation in a hilarious way as a few of his local music videos and telefilms or 'natok' (drama) went viral on the social media over the last few years.

Hero Alom has once again become internet focus as he bought a nomination form of General Ershad's Jatiya Party to contest the nation election.
