Phones allowed; but to be kept shut in centres

Election Commission has allowed carrying mobile phones in voting centres, but on condition that they will not use it inside voting centres.

“Voters can enter polling centre along with their mobile phone set,” the commission’s Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said in a press briefing today.

“But, voters will have to switch off their mobile phones after entering the centres,” he said at the briefing held at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon.

He maintained that no motorised vehicles, even private cars, can ply across the country without permission from the Election Commission on voting day.
