Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak on Sunday denied allegations that BNP or Jatiya Oikyafront agents had been driven out from polling centers during the national election.

“Is there anyone who can say that any BNP or Oikyafront agent has been kicked out from any polling centre?” he asked at a media briefing at AL chief’s political office in Dhanmondi.

He also criticised Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain.

“He spoke about the absence of BNP agents in some centres. How can there be BNP agents in seats where the High Court declared candidature of BNP aspirants illegal?” Nanak asked.

He said the BNP showed their “political bankruptcy” by nominating war criminals, killers of Bangabandhu and four national leaders, family members of convicted criminals of August 21 grenade attack and patrons of militants.

The AL leader said the people exercised their franchise in a festive mood and voting went smoothly. “Voters are casting their votes peacefully and freely,” he said.

“This enthusiastic participation of voters will strengthen our democracy,” he said.
