A suspected drug trader was killed in what the law enforcement said gunfight in Jaliapara of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.

News agency UNB says, the deceased was Mostak Ahmed, 32, son of Jakir Hossain from Jaliapara.

A team of police arrested Mostak on Saturday night. Following his information, police in association with Border Buard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted the drive in the area around 5:00am to recover arms and drugs, UNB quoted commanding officer of BGB-2 battalion Mohammad Asaduzzaman Chowdhury as saying.

When the team reached the area, cohorts of Mostak opened fire on the team to snatch him away, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering the gunfight, said the officer.

The gunfight left Mostak dead on the spot.

Later, the team also said to have recovered 10,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and arms from the spot.

The law enforcement’s version of the event was, however, not verified independently as no version of the incident was available immediately either from any witnesses or from any members of the victims’ family.
