India sent 21 Bangladeshi nationals, including two women, back to Bangladesh yesterday following their completion of their jail term ranging from two to four years for entering the country without valid documents.

The Bangladeshis were deported after two years in detention camps in Silchar, Assam, from Sutarkandi-Karimganj Immigration Check Post (ICP) on the India-Bangladesh International Border, said a senior police official.

After receiving clearance from the federal Home Ministry, the 21 Bangladeshis were sent back to Bangladesh when Assam police and the BSF handed them over to Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) at the ICP, an Assam Police spokesman said in Guwahati.

They were detained for violation of the Passport Act, Karimganj district (Assam) Superintendent of Police Gaurav Upadhyay said, adding, they had illegally entered Assam through Tripura two years ago.

"The Bangladeshis were lodged at the detention centre in Cachar Central Jail in Silchar from where they were taken in a special bus to the border point before they were handed over to the Bangladeshi authorities," he said.

The deported persons were identified as Nasir Hussain, Abdul Wahid, Mohammad Khairul, Jahida Begum, Sufia Begum, Mihir Pebel Mia, Safique Islam, Saveel Ahmad, Ramjan Ali, Bablu Ahmad, Suman Fakir, Masum Ahmad, Nazim Uddin, Asraful Alam Chowdhury, Litun Kanti Das, Tofique Ali, Raju Ahmad, Dilwar Hussain, Md Sukkur, Samim Ahmad and Rubel Ahmad.

They are residents of Tangail, Sylhet, Gopalganj, Rangpur and Kishoreganj districts, Upadhyay added.
