The maiden session of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad will begin around 3:00pm tomorrow.

President Abdul Hamid on January 9 convened the session exercising the power bestowed upon him as per clause (1) of article 72 of the constitution.

The president will deliver speech on the first day of the session, said a source at parliament secretariat.

According to the parliament’s rules of procedure, the speaker and deputy speaker will be elected during the first session of the House.

The source said the first session of the House might be longer.

The tenure and activities of the House will be finalised at a meeting of business advisory committee of the parliament to be held tomorrow.

All preparations have already been taken for the first session, the sources said, adding the security measures have been tightened and the JS Bhaban has also been beautified with flowers and vegetables tubs.

Awami League’s grand alliance partner Jatiya Party will sit in the opposition bench along with AL-led 14-party alliance partners Workers Party and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal.
