CEC warns strongly against irregularities in upazila polls

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has warned strongly against irregularities in the approaching Upazila Parishad elections.

“If necessary, we will stop the election. But there will be no compromise with irregularities,” he said at a programme in Dhaka’s Agargaon today.

CEC Huda was speaking at the inaugural training of returning and assistant returning officers of the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections.

“If any returning officer thinks the atmosphere is not congenial, s/he will recommend to stop elections,” he instructed returning officers.

He advised the officers to allow the people to exercise their franchise freely in the Upazila Parishad elections. “Let people vote their choice.”

CEC Huda also advised the officers to take guard against any coercion on the voters. “Instruct the law enforcing agencies accordingly.”

He also instructed to take steps to avoid any untoward incident during the election.
