1 killed, 24 injured in Mymensingh road crash

One person was killed and 24 others injured when a passenger bus plunged into a river smashing a bridge railing in Signboard area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila last night.

The victim was Hafizuddin, 35, a native of Sherpur district.

Police said the accident occurred at 11:15 pm when the Dhaka-bound passenger bus plunged into the Banar river wounding 25 passengers as the driver of the vehicle tried to overtake a microbus on the bridge.

Police of Trishal thana and Fire Brigade personnel rescued the 25 injured passengers from the river. They were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital where Hafizuddin succumbed to his injuries.

Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Trishal thana, confirmed the incident.
