Modi vows to keep bilateral ties with Bangladesh in pace

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reaffirmed India’s commitment to work with Bangladesh and build on the momentum of existing bilateral relationship.

Modi made the remark when visiting Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen called on him at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg.

The Indian premier congratulated Momen on his appointment as the foreign minister and appreciated his gesture of selecting India as the destination for his first visit, according to a statement issued by Modi’s office.

Foreign Minister Abdul Momen briefed the Prime Minister on recent developments in the bilateral relationship,” it added.

The Indian prime minister said that India-Bangladesh relations have been on an upward trajectory in the last few years. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to work with Bangladesh to build on this momentum during the new term in office of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said the statement.

Abdul Momen, who went to India on Wednesday, is scheduled to meet the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and attend a lunch to be hosted by India’s Urban Development and Housing Minister Hardeep Singh Puri who was former Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The meeting between Modi and Momen came a day before the fifth meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Committee here tomorrow to review the entire gamut of bilateral relations.
