German delegation due Wednesday to see Rohingya situation

A German delegation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the States of South Asia arrives here on Wednesday mainly to see Rohingya situation in Cox’s Bazar district.

The delegation consists of Chairman of the group Tobias Pfluger, and MPs Gabriele Katzmarek and Bettina Stark-Watzinger.

“They’ll arrive on Wednesday morning and go to Cox’s Bazar the same day,” an official told UNB on Monday.

The delegation members will visit Cox’s Bazar and meet government officials and representatives of the Rohingya in order to have a comprehensive picture of the challenges in dealing with the Rohingya crisis, according to German Embassy in Dhaka.

Another delegation, led by Vice-President of German federal parliament Claudia Roth, along with two MPs is visiting Bangladesh to learn about the consequences of climate change in the country and discuss possible remedies.

Claudia Roth who has been in the Bundestag since 2002 is accompanied by the MPs Matthias Zimmer and Frithjof Schmidt.

The delegation accompanied by German Ambassador in Dhaka Peter Fahrenholtz is now in Khulna met climate migrants on Monday.

The two high-level parliamentary delegations attest to the strong and diverse relationship between Germany and Bangladesh, said the German Embassy in Dhaka.
