‘Drug peddler’ killed in city ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Gulistan area of city early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Gaza Kamal, 35.
A team of law enforcers raided Gulistan area on information that a gang was trading illegal drugs near Mohanagar Natya Mancha in the area around 2:00am, Sayeed Ali, sub inspector of Paltan police station said.
Sensing presence of law enforcers, drug dealers opened fire on them. In self defense, police retaliated, triggering a gun battle.
When the criminals fled, police found a man with bullet wounds on the spot and sent him to Dhaka medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the police official said.
A locally-made weapon, yaba pills and instruments of drug consumption were seized from the spot, SI further said.
