The High Court (HC) today granted a six-month bail to former Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in the Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.

Rana, who was MP from Tangail-3 (Ghatail) constituency, will get released from the jail if the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) will not stay the HC order, said his lawyer advocateMunsurul Hoque Chowdhury.

The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Rana seeking bail in the case.

Deputy Attorney General Md Bashir Ullah told The Daily Star that the government will move appeal before the SC’s appellate division seeking stay on the HC bail order.

Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed’s bullet-hit body was recovered on January 18, 2013. Later, police found evidence of involvement of Rana and his three brothers in the killing.

Rana was sent to jail after his surrender before a lower court in July 2015 in connection with the case.
