Tk 23.23 lakh fine levied for traffic offences

The traffic department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police filed 4,729 cases and realised fines of Tk 23.23 lakh in separate drives against traffic rules violators in the capital on Friday.

Besides, 28 vehicles were dumped and 703 other vehicles were put on the wrecker during the day-long drive, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman.

Among the cases, 1,007 were filed for plying vehicles on wrong side of roads, 106 for using hydraulic horns, one for not having beacon light, two for using various stickers and five for using dark-tinted glass.

Besides, cases were filed against 1,276 motorcycles for violating traffic rules and 63 other motorcycles were seized, he said.

The traffic department of the DMP was conducting special drives as part of its routine work, he said.
