The body of Awami League Presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim’s grandson, Zayan Chowdhury, who was killed in a bomb attack in Sri Lanka on Sunday, is likely to arrive in Bangladesh today.

“His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Banani playground after Asr prayers on that day”, Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Selim said on Tuesday night.

He said Zayan will be laid to eternal rest at the Banani graveyard where martyrs of August 15, 1975 carnage were buried.

At least 321 people were killed and around 500 injured in bomb blasts that ripped through churches and luxury hotels in the Sri Lankan capital on Easter Sunday, the first major attack on the Indian Ocean island since the end of a civil war 10 years ago.

Zayan, one of the two sons of Sheikh Selim’s daughter, Sheikh Amena Sultana Sonia, died in an explosion at a hotel where the family was staying. Zayan’s father, Mashiul Haque Chowdhury, was also injured in the blast and later admitted to a local hospital.

According to Sheikh Selim’s family members and close aides, Sonia, her husband Mashiul and their two sons, Zayan and Zohan, were staying at the hotel in Colombo on holiday.

During the explosion, Sonia and Zohan were in their room on the hotel’s sixth floor, while Mashiul and Zayan were at a restaurant on the ground floor.
