Severe cyclonic storm Fani, which has already hit Odisha state of India with a 180-200km/h wind speed, is likely to hit Bangladesh this evening (Friday) with half of its velocity, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The Met office also said the cyclonic storm’s wind speed in Bangladesh will possibly be 80-100 kilometre an hour. The impact of the cyclone will continue for two days all over the country.

Met office director Shamsuddin Ahmed told Prothom Alo that Fani will move towards West Bengal over Odisha. Later, it will come to Bangladesh with weakened wind speed.

He also said it will start impacting Bangladesh in the afternoon and will likely to cross over the country by evening towards India’s state of Meghalaya.

Rain will continue from Friday night to Saturday due to the cyclone, Shamsuddin added.
