3 killed in storm in Barguna, Noakhali

Three people including a two-year-old child died during a storm caused by cyclone Fani in Noakhali and Barguna early today.

With these, a total of 10 people were killed in different parts of the country since yesterday following cyclonic storm Fani.

Nur Jahan, 50, and her grandson Zahidul, 16, died after a tree fell on their home when they were asleep around 3:00am at Charduani village in Patharghata upazila of Barguna, said Hanif Sikder, Officer-in-charge of Patharghata Police Station.

In Noakhali, a two-year-old child died in a wall collapse in Subarnachar upazila in the wee hours of today.

The deceased was identified as Md Ibrahim, son of Abdur Rahman from Char Aminul Haque village in the upazila, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO)of Subarnachar Abu Oadud.

Besides, another 25 people were injured in Noakhali during the storm last night, he added.

WHAT IS THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT OF FANI?

The very severe cyclonic storm Fani over West central Bay and adjoining Northwest Bay moved north-northeastwards and crossed Odisha coast near (Puri) of India in the midnight and weakened into a severe cyclonic storm over coastal Odisha and adjoining Northwest Bay.

It is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction further over Odisha-West Bengal coastal area, reach Khulna and adjoining southwestern part of Bangladesh during midnight tonight to morning.
