3 ‘robbers’ killed in Sundarban ‘gunfight’

Three suspected robbers, including a ringleader, were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion(Rab) in Khontakodalia canal under Mongla upazila on Monday.
One of the deceased was identified as gang leader Panna while two others, aged between 25 and 30, couldn’t be identified immediately, Rab said.
Rab Khulna-6 operation officer Major Shamim Sarker said receiving information from fishermen about the presence of alleged robbers, a Rab team conducted a drive on Sunday night.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robber gang opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back. The exchange of gunfire continued for 7 hours.
The Rab team recovered the bullet-hit bodies of three robbers and took them to Mongla Upazila Health Complex where doctor decaled them dead.
Two injured Rab members were given first aid, said the Rab official.
Rab members recovered four firearms and several rounds of bullet from the spot.
