Tania’s colleagues block road in Kalyanpur

The colleagues and officials of Shahinoor Akter Tania, who was allegedly killed after gang-rape in a passenger bus on her way home in Kishoreganj’s Katiadi upazila, blocked the Mirpur Road of Kalyanpur area of the capital on Thursday noon.

They were staging a sit-in on the road and chanting slogans demanding highest punishment of culprits.

During their sit-in, hundreds of vehicles got struck creating serious traffic congestion on the street.

Tania, a nurse of Ibn Sina Hospital’s Kalyanpur branch’s  in Dhaka, boarded a 'Swarnalata Paribahan' bus from Mohakhali bus stand on Monday to go to her village home.

When the bus reached Ujanpur in Katiadi, other passengers except Tania got down from the bus around 9:30pm.

Later, the driver and his helpers of the bus violated her in the moving bus and strangled her with her scarf before throwing the body out of the vehicle at Gazaria near Bajitpur upazila.

Locals spotted the victim lying on the road and took her to Katiadi Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead around 10:45pm.

On May 8, Kishoreganj’s civil surgeon also found evidences that Tania was gang-raped and murdered, during her autopsy.
