Rape accused killed in Chattogram 'gunfight'

A rape accused was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Shitakunda of Chattogram on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Rana, 20, is accused of raping a seventh grader in a case filed in February this year.

Maj Mehedi Hasan, deputy director of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-7, said tipped off, members of the elite force force raided Amirabad area on information about some miscreants.

“Sensing the presence of the Rab members, the miscreants opened fire on them, prompting them fire back that triggered the gunfight” he added.

After the gunfight, RAB men found a bullet hit body in the spot. Later, his identity was discovered to be of the rape accused Rana.

Rab also recovered a gun and 11 rounds of bullets from the spot.
