China to stay beside Bangladesh on Rohingya issue: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said that China will stay beside Bangladesh to accelerate repatriation of displaced Rohingya people to Myanmar.

Replying to a question of a journalist, the premier said that although they are attached to Myanmar, China assured that they will discuss with Myanmar for repatriating Rohingyas.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was talking with the journalists at a briefing about her just-concluded five-day official visit to China.
The press briefing started at 4:08pm on Monday.

Sheikh Hasina went to China on July 1 for a five-day bilateral state visit at the invitation of her Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang.

During her visit, Sheikh Hasina attended the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Dalian on July 2, and held bilateral talks with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on July 4 and 5 respectively.

She also had a meeting with Communist Party of China (CPC) Minister for International Affairs Song Tao.

All the Chinese high-ups expressed their interest to help Bangladesh in resolving the Rohingya crisis by convincing the Myanmar government and its leaders through bilateral discussions.

During her visit, Bangladesh and China signed nine instruments, including two loan agreements, for further strengthening cooperation on power, water resources, culture and tourism sectors as well as for providing 2500 metric tonnes of rice for the displaced Rohingyas.
