Md Shafiqul Islam, the new commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, today said that he would work as an officer-in-charge (OC) to make police stations more people-oriented.

“If those who work at the police stations do not show significant behavioural changes, then our senior officials will work at the stations. They will listen to the woes of people once a week,” the DMP commissioner said.

“And I myself will work as an OC,” he said while briefing reporters at the Media Centre of DMP headquarters.

Replying to a query of journalists, the DMP chief assured journalists that he would take proper steps so that people can lodge general diaries (GDs) or file cases without any harassment.

When people return from police stations, they should return with the guarantee that they will get back their lost goods and dignity, he said.

The commissioner further said people should have faith on police adding that he will work on the matter.

People will not be the victim of extortion and harassment any more, he said, calling upon people to assist police in bringing discipline on roads as it is not possible without their help.
