The Mauritius government has started a process of sending back some 80 Bangladeshi workers for alleged vandalism in a ready-made garment (RMG) factory following a protest by them, according to media reports on Friday.

The island nation already sent back some 15 Bangladeshi nationals on Thursday night. The rest of them will be sent back soon.

The authorities of Mauritius, the first African nation that recognised the independence of Bangladesh, took the decision after a group of Bangladeshi workers of Firemount Textile Limited, located at Saint Félix Island in Mauritius, launched a protest demanding the payment of their arrear salaries and other facilities.

The protest started on last September 30 and continued till October 3.
