Teacher held in Chattogram for raping schoolgirl

A teacher in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram has been arrested by police for allegedly raping a schoolgirl.

The arrested person is Mohammad Tareque, a Sitakunda Girls ' High School teacher and son of Zahir Ahmed of the Muradpur union in the upazila.

The detention took place on Saturday night after a case was filed by the victim in the evening, police said.

Tareque took the girl to a residential hotel in the port city of Chattogram last July, according to the case statement, and raped her with a false marriage promise.

However, when she put pressure on him, he refused to marry her.

Sitakunda Model Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (Operations) Abdul Kalam said the school teacher from Muradpur was arrested shortly after the case was filed.
