Suspected UNO attackers held

Two people were arrested at Dinajpur in connection with a criminal attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida.

They were arrested in joint drives by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police from Hakimpur and Ghoraghat upazila, Dinajpur district, early Friday.

The arrested were identified as Asadul Haque, 35, son of Amzad Hossain of Osmanpur Upazila and Jahangir Alam 

They have been arrested by law enforcers analyzing CCTV footage of UNO residence.

Tipped off, a police team from Hakimpur, Birampur, and Ghoraghat police stations and Rab members conducted a joint drive at the Hili area of Hakimpur Upazila in Kaliganj around 4:50 am and arrested Asadul, said Wahid Ferdous, Hakimpur Police Station officer-in-charge.

He was later taken to the RAB office in district Rangpur.

RAB has also arrested Jahangir Alam on another drive in the district's Ghoraghat Upazila.

The duo broke into Thursday's house early hours and one of them was wearing PPE, said Rangpur Range Devdas Bhattacharjee's Deputy Inspector General (DIG).

Police, RAB and intelligence agencies began a massive search for the attackers soon after the incident.

They collected CCTV footage and concluded that two people went into the house and carried out the attack.

Wahida Khanam, Ghoraghat's Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), was seriously injured early Thursday in an attack by miscreants at her home in the premises of Upazila Parishad.

The gruesome attack also injured her father. They were taken to Hospital and Rangpur Medical College.

The UN was later airlifted by a Bangladesh Air Force MI-171SH helicopter from Rangpur to Dhaka.

She was admitted to National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital , Dhaka.
