MC College gang rape: 3 accused produced before court after remand

After completion of a five-day remand, three accused in the sensational rape incident at Sylhet MC College hostel were brought before the court.

On Friday afternoon, police brought them to Sylhet 's Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

The accused are Saifur Rahman, Arjun Lashkar and Robiul Islam, the first accused.

SSD Commissioner Amulya Bhushan Chowdhury of the Sylhet Metropolitan Police confirmed the matter to the media.

On Monday, they were put on remand for five days.

The police said statements under section 164 will be released.

In the case of a Sylhet court on Sept 29, three other defendants, Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Rajon and Ainuddin, were placed on five-day remand each.

The detention of the third defendant, Tareq, and the sixth defendant, Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, will end on Sunday.

A group of youths tied a man up and raped his 19-year-old wife on Friday night in the MC College dormitory.

After police rescued the pair, in the early hours of Saturday, the victim's husband filed a case at the Shahporan Police Station against nine individuals who listed the names of six.

At present, all the suspects in the case are in police custody.

In addition, on Tuesday, the Ministry of Education created a three-member committee to investigate whether there was any wrongdoing by the college authorities in the MC College dormitory gang rape incident.

On Tuesday, the High Court formed an inquiry committee to look at the incident.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, meanwhile, has said that none of those involved in the incident will be spared.
