Qawmi Madrasa Education Board gets new chairman

As the new chairman of the Bangladesh Qawmi Madrasa Education Board (Befaq), Maulana Mahmudul Hasan, principal of Jatrabari Madrasa in the capital, was chosen.

Mahmudul Hasan, a former Gulshan Azad Mosque Khatib in Dhaka and also regarded as an Islamic pro-government scholar, won 63 votes, while his opponent Nur Hossain Kasemi, a top leader of the 20-party alliance led by the BNP, received 55 votes.

In the election held at the headquarters of the Bangladesh Qawmi Madrasa Education Board in Kajla, Jatrabari, the representatives of Majlish e Amela (Executive Committee) and Majlish e Surah took part.
