Molestation of Noakhali woman: Cases handed over to PBI

Two cases filed over the torture of a woman after being stripped in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila were transferred for further investigation to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

The documents were handed over to PBI on Thursday night pursuant to the Police Headquarters Order, said Police Superintendent Noakhali M Alamgir Hossain.

Previously, the investigating officers of the cases — one filed under the Pornography Control Act and the other under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act — were Mostaque Ahmed, a sub-inspector of the Begumganj Police Station.

Last month, the housewife of Noakhali's Begumganj upazila was raped by some local miscreants at Upazila Ward No. 9 of Eklashpur Union and on Sunday, a video of the barbaric incident went viral on the internet.

In different parts of the country, the event sparked widespread outrage and criticism.

Five youths, including Delowar and his associates Badal, Kalam, Rahamat Ullah and Abdur Rahim, molested the housewife on September 2.
