More than 500 houses have been burnt to ashes in a fire at a Rohingya camp in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.

The fire broke out in the e-block of the Nayapara registered Rohingya camp in Teknaf around 1.30pm on Wednesday. Several people were injured but no casualties were reported, says Daily Jugantar.

Upon receiving the news, the fire service and the people of the camp tried for about 3 hours to bring the fire under control. But before that, more than 500 houses in the camp were completely burnt to ashes, said Abdul Hannan, in-charge of the Nayapara Rohingya camp.  He said all the houses in E block were burnt in the fire. There were about 500 houses here. Initially, emergency assistance is being provided to the Rohingyas affected by the fire.

Fire Service Teknaf Station Officer Mukul Kumar Nath said that after receiving the news, two units of Fire Service brought the fire under control after trying for about 3 hours. It is thought that the fire may have started from a gas stove.

Meanwhile, the affected Rohingyas in the camp said that the burnt Rohingyas were staying under the open sky.
