Initiatives have been taken to plant about one thousand trees in Suhrawardy Udyan as part of the implementation of the master plan to preserve the memory of the liberation war, said Habibul Islam,  the director of the Swadhinata Stambha construction (third phase) project and joint secretary to the government.

On Saturday (May 8th),  he said that the history of the great war of independence would be preserved and the historic Suhrawardy Udyan would be developed as a memorial center of international standard.

We want to make the an international standard park through a master plan, he said,  where the installation of the sculpture with the history of 23 years of liberation struggle and nine months of liberation war against Pakistani rule, the place of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic speech on March 7, the place of surrender of the Pakistani aggressor Various construction works including construction of car parking and children's park for cars are underway.

Habibul Islam said that in order to implement this action plan, some trees in the park have been cut down and various media outlets have been spreading fragmentary information about these activities, causing confusion among many. About one thousand trees will be planted here in the coming monsoon season. Throughout the year, so that one of the trees in the garden has flowers, people enter here to get the impression that he has come to a place to walk.

He said that the history of the great war of independence and freedom struggle will be preserved and the historic Suhrawardy Udyan will be developed as an international standard memorial so that generation after generation can know the exact history of our glorious liberation war. To obstruct and question the implementation of this master plan, a group  is spreading various kinds of confusion.

He said that one thing has been said over and over that food shops are being set up here. There is no bread or rice shop here. A person may get tired of visiting the park and see the various facilities here, he may get a little thirsty for water or he may need toilet facilities. Then he can sit in one place and rest. For this, seven 'food kiosks' will be set up in the entire garden. Where water and light snacks will be provided. There will be separate toilet facilities for men and women.
