Elections in 8 UPs of Nachole, Bholahat upazilas begin

4th phase elections in eight union parishads of Nachole and Bholahat upazilas in the district started at 8 am peacefully and voting will continue till 4 pm.

The unions are Nachole, Kosba, Nezampur and Fatepur in Nachole upazila and Bholahat, Daldali, Gohalbari and Jambaria in Bholahat upazila.

According to the District Election Office sources, a total of 31 candidates are contesting for the post of chairmen, 310 candidates for the post of members and 116 candidates for the post of women reserved seats.

A total of 1,79,024 voters will cast their votes in 91 centres, the sources added.

In four unions of Nachole upazila, 14 candidates are contesting for the post of chairmen, 143 candidates for the post of members and 47 candidates for the women reserved seats.

A total of 99,470 voters in which 50,309 male and 49,161 female will cast their votes in 54 centres of the four unions of the upazila, the sources added.

54 presiding officers, 312 assistant presiding officers and 624 polling officers will take votes in the upazila.

In four unions of Bholahat upazila, 17 candidates are contesting for the post of chairmen, 167 candidates for the post of members and 69 candidates for the women reserved seats.

A total of 79,554 voters in which 38,970 male and 40,584 female will cast their votes in 37 centres of the four unions of the upazila, the sources added.

37 presiding officers, 243 assistant presiding officers and 486 polling officers will take votes in the upazila.

Chapainawabganj District Election Officer Md Motawakkil Rahman said, the elections are going on in a free and fair atmosphere as all precautionary measures were taken.

Members of BGB, RAB and police have been deployed led by executive magistrates, he added.
