One owner of Avijhan-10 launch arrested from Keraniganj

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today arrested M Hamjalal Sheikh, one of the owners of the recently burnt launch MV Avhijan-10 on Sugandya river, from capital's outskirts Keraniganj area.
The launch plying on Dhaka-Borguna route caught fire on the river of Sugandya in Jhalokhathi on December 23, killing at least 42 people and leaving so far 51 missing.
The elite force personnel arrested Hamjalal from one of his relative's house in Keraniganj as he was on the run after the deadly fire incident at the lunch, said RAB Legal and Media Wing Commander Khondoker AL Moyeen.
Earlier, an arrest warrant was issued by a court after a case was filed accusing eight persons including four owners following the devastating fire incident at the launch in the middle of the river at 3 am on Thursday.
Special Metropolitan Magistrate Joynab Begum of Dhaka's Marine Court issued the arrest warrant against the accused persons on Sunday.
Chief Inspector of the Marine Court under the Department of Shipping Shafiqur Rahman filed the case with the court.
The accused included the four owners of the launch Hamjalal Shiekh, Shamim Ahammad, Rasel Ahammad and Ferdous Hasan Rabbi.
They own the burnt launch under the lunch proprietor group of company Mrs Al-Araf & Company.
The other accused are - launch in-charge Master Riaz Sikder, in-charge driver M Masum Billah, Second Master Khalilur Rahman and second driver Abul Kalam.
The fitness certificate, registration of the ill-fated launch and the certificates of its master and driver also have been postponed.
The case was filed under the clauses of 56,66,69 and 70 of the internal marine ordinance.
