Cognizance order in war crimes case against MP Hannan Dec 11

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-BD) today set December 11 for passing order on whether to take the charges of crimes against humanity pressed by the prosecution against Jatiya Party lawmaker MA Hannan and seven others from Mymensingh, into cognizance or not.

"We submitted the formal charge with the office of the tribunal registrar yesterday. Today we drew the attention of the three-member ICT-BD to this and pleaded to take the six charges against the accused into cognizance," prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chemon told BSS.

Apart from Hannan, the other accused are Hannan's son Rafique Sajjad, 62, Khandakar Golam Sabbir Ahmed, 69, Mizanur Rahman Mintu, 63, Hormuj Ali, 73, Mohammad Abdus Sattar, 64, Mohammad Fakruzzaman, 61, and Khandakar Golam Rabbani, 63. Of them, Fakruzzaman, Sattar and Rabbani are still on the run.

The prosecution brought charges of genocide, murder, confinement and torture against the accused.

The investigation agency of the ICT-BD on July 11, 2016, finalized their probe report against the eight, bringing five charges of crimes against humanity against the accused. The ICT probe body submitted the report to the prosecution the next day.
