25 stranded Bangladeshi workers return home from Afghanistan

A total of 25 Bangladeshi workers, who had been stranded in a factory in Herat province in Afghanistan for over 10 months, were flown back home from Afghanistan this morning as a result of hectic diplomatic efforts.
A Bangladesh Biman flight carrying the workers landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here at around 9.45 am, according to foreign ministry sources.
The fortune-seeking Bangladeshi workers went to Herat province in Afghanistan illegally and joined a factory there. But, the factory was shut down after 2 to 3 months of their joining.
As a result, the ministry of foreign affairs took steps to bring back the workers at home and to this end it contacted the Afghan embassy in Dhaka and International Organisation for Migrations (IOM) in Afghanistan.
In the meantime, the Afghan authority provided food and shelter to the stranded Bangladeshi workers following foreign ministry's request. Besides, the Afghan authority also exempted their visa fee for their overstay in Afghanistan.
Later, the International Organisation for Migration's (IOM) took initiatives for their repatriation, the sources added.
