Road accident kills 4, injures 25 in Khulna

Four people were killed and 25 others injured in separate road accidents in two upazilas of the district during the past 24 hours.

The deceased were identified as Zohurul Islam, 50, Rokonuzzaman, 35, Saddam, 32, and Zagadish Saha.

Police said the accident occurred when a Kuakata-bound tourists' bus coming from Satkhira skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch on the Khulna-Satkhira highway in Jabusa area under Rupsha upazilas as its driver lost control over the steering at about 10 pm, leaving a man dead on the spot and injuring 27 others.

Among the wounded, two succumbed to their injuries on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH). Of the injured people, seven were admitted to KMCH while others to local clinics, said Khulna police superintendent Nizamul Haque Molla.

The bodies were handed over to the relatives today after postmortem, he added.

In another incident, Zagadish, an owner of a rented motorcycle, died last evening when two motorcycles collided head-on in Saziara Boyratala area on Dumuria-Mikshimil road under Dumuria upazila in Khulna, said sub-inspector of Dumuria Police Station Ashiqul Islam.

Arif Sarder, another motorcycle rider, was admitted to KMCH in critical condition, the SI said, adding that police seized both the vehicles. 

Two cases were filed in two separate police stations.
