Bangladesh-India always maintain close relation: Shahriar

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, has said the two neighbouring countries, Bangladesh and India, maintain close and cordial relation on various bilateral fields and issues.

The two countries have already resolved some important pending issues including enclave problems successfully. "We are very much hopeful about continuation of the relation," he added while addressing a reception ceremony in the honour of Harsh Vardhan Shringla, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, as chief guest.

Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) formally accorded reception to the Indian High Commissioner in its conference hall here yesterday evening.

Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Ayen Uddin, MP, and Zila Parishad Chairman Muhammad Ali Sarker also spoke with RCCI Preident Md Muniruzzaman in the chair.

State Minister Shahriar Alam said there are more other opportunities of improving the region after the best uses of cordial relation between the two countries. He urged the Indian entrepreneurs to invest here for mutual benefits.

"We have to come forward and work together for boosting regional communications and economic prosperity", he added.

The state minister said necessary steps will be taken for launching the Rajshahi-Maldah-Baharampur International Bus Service as early as possible. Time has come to reactivate the now-defunct railway tracks connecting the two countries.

He stressed on tourism for more bilateral development and exchange of ideas. Procedure of having passport and visa should be made easy so common people can travel comfortably. 

Harsh Vardhan Shringla hoped that the existing relation will remain in the days ahead.
