Publicity and Publication Secretary of the Awami League (AL) Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday urged the BNP leaders to refrain from threatening the people and the court in the name of the election-time government.

He was replying to the BNP's claim that no election would be held in the country without participation of Begum Khaleda Zia.

The former minister was addressing a discussion and mourning procession arranged by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) in front of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) to mark the International Mother Language Day.

Announcing that election would not be held in the country without participation of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia would tantamount to the threat to the court and the people of the country, said Mahmud.

BNP's such announcement, he said, created mental pressure on the judges. The announcement is aimed at issuing threats to throw 'petrol bomb' again on the people, he added.

Chaired by BSJ President film actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Faruque, the meeting also was addressed, among others, by BSJ Vice-President Foyez Uddin Mia, Dany Sidak and General Secretary Falguni Hamid.

Mahmud said the election will be held under the Election Commission and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will head the election-time government.
