EU delegation visits northern districts

A high powered EU delegation, led by Ambassador and Head of EU delegation Pierre Mayaudon, has been visiting to northern districts of the country to see for themselves the changes that the districts have undergone in the last seven or more years.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali is accompanying the EU delegation to the northern districts- Nilphamari, Dinajpur and Panchagarh, foreign ministry sources said here today.

Foreign ministry organised the field trip as part of "Visit Bangladesh" programme for the diplomats.

The first day of the three-day visit began on Wednesday with the delegation visiting Uttara EPZ in Nilphamari, one of the growing EPZs where they were briefed by EPZ Authorities about the impact the EPZ is having in socio-economic condition of the area especially uplifting the women through their employment.

Later, the EU delegation visited Khansama Upazila Parishad and met with the Chairmen of Upazila and Union Parishads.

Besides, they also paid a visit to the "Haque-er Haat" Community Health Clinic and saw local level health services delivery- an exemplary health service delivery programme initiated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the people in rural areas across the country.

The first day ended with visit to a Litchi garden which Dinajpur is famous for and historic tourist site "Ramsagar".

The delegation will also visit UNESCO heritage site Kantajew temple and tea gardens in Panchagarh today, the sources added.
