PM opens 100MW Jamalpur Power Plant of PowerPac

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday inaugurated the 100MW Jamalpur Power Plant built by PowerPac through video conferencing from her office in the capital.
State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirza Azam, PowerPac Chairman Rick Haque Sikder, PowerPac Director & COO SQ Islam Mohon and Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner Md Shahabuddin Khan, among others, were present in Jamalpur, the other end of the PM’s videoconferencing.
She also opened six other new power projects having the total generation capacity of 1379 megawatts, officials at the Power Division said.
PowerPac, a subsidiary of privately run business conglomerate Sikder Group, has installed the 100MW Jamalpur Power Plant on seven acres of land at Shahpur besidethe Jamalpur-Sherpur bypass road.
Earlier, PowerPac entered into a 15-year contract with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to install the dual-fuelled hi-tech power plant.Heavy fuel oil (HFO) is used as fuel to run the plant.
The inaugural programme at the PMO began at 11:00am. PM’s Energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid, among others,were present on the occasion.
The premier also had brief discussions with the local administration and public representatives in the respective areas.Other projects inaugurated from the PMO are Shahjibazar 330MW combined cycle plant, Barisal 110MW dual-fuel plant of Summit Group, Narayanganj 55MW liquid-fuel plant of Summit Group,Nababganj 55MW liquid-fuel plant of Dhaka Southern Power Generation Ltd, Manikganj 55MW liquid-
fuel plant of Dhaka Northern Power General Ltd and Thanchi Upazila new electrification
project in Bandarban.
