President seeks stronger ties with Ireland, Algeria, Kenya

New envoys from Ireland, Algeria and Kenya presented their credentials to President Abdul Hamid separately at Bangabhaban here yesterday.

The envoys, all non-resident, are: Ambassador Brian McElduff of Ireland, Ambassador Lakhal Benkelai of Algeria and High Commissioner Florence Imisa Weche of Kenya.

President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.

President Hamid welcomed the envoys to Bangladesh and assured them of providing all-out cooperation in discharging their duties.

He called upon the envoys to play an important role in strengthening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and those countries as well as to explore country's potential areas including trade and investment in the days ahead.

The President underscored the need for exchange of visits by high level delegations from both public and private sectors to strengthen bilateral relations.

Mentioning many Bangladesh products as international-standard including jute and jute goods, readymade garments (RMG) and medicine, the President urged the three countries to import those from here.

The envoys sought the President's cooperation in discharging their duties and hoped that the existing bilateral relations with Bangladesh will be enhanced further in the future.

Secretaries concerned and high officials to the President were present.

Earlier, on arrival at Bangabhaban, the envoys were given guard of honour separately by a contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR).
