A Dhaka court on Thursday issued warrant for arrest of 35 BNP leaders and activists in a case relating to arson of a vehicle during the opposition's blockade programme in Dhaka’s Paltan area in January 2015.
The party's vice chairman and former state minister Barkatullah Bulu is one of the persons indicted in the case.
Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge Kamrul Hossain Molla issued the warrant as he took into cognizance the charges framed against 47 people in all, including the 35 partymen.
Only 12 of the 47 accused in the case are freed on bail, according to public prosecutor Tapash Kumar Pal.
The party's senior leader and former minister MK Anwar and the BNP chairperson's adviser and journalist leader Shaukat Mahmood are among those who have secured bail in the case.

The court directed the Paltan model police station officer-in-charge (OC) to submit the report on execution of the warrant before it by 5 April.
The accused in the case include the BNP chairperson’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, the BNP's central leaders Mir Sarafat Ali Safu, Shirin Sultana and Azizul Bari Helal, said the PP.
