Lawmakers of both the treasury and opposition benches today said Bangladesh is advancing at a high speed under the bold and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to become a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.

They said the country's image has been brightened enough abroad following various efforts taken by the government in various important sectors, but a vested quarter does not want an economically solvent Bangladesh.

Taking part in the general discussion on the thanksgiving motion of the President's address to the House on January 22, the MPs said the present government is relentlessly working for advancing the national economy in a faster pace by speeding up development in all areas and bringing smile on the faces of the common people.

The members thanked President Abdul Hamid for his address and described the speech as a clean document of progress and development activities of the incumbent government.

They said the world leaders are highly appreciating the way Bangladesh is marching towards socio-economic progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by keeping the democratic trend on.

The MPs said the country is now self-sufficient in food production and it has been possible due to sincere efforts and good governance of the administration of Sheikh Hasina.

Taking part in the discussion, Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman said the present government has already achieved success in various sectors and is now looking forward turning Bangladesh into a developed nation by 2041.

Highlighting his ministry's activities, the minister said the government has provided scholarships to 1.73 crore students across the country for educating the nation, adding, "If we could improve teacher's quality then the education quality would be improved."

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said Bangladesh's earnings reached $ 28 billion from readymade garment, which is higher than Pakistan, adding, "Bangladesh would be a middle income country by 2021 and developed one by 2041 under the bold and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."

Coming down heavily on the BNP, he said the only objective of the party is to destabilize the country through acts of terrorism and militancy and destroy democracy, as it does not believe in people's socio-economic development.

The parliament members paid their heartfelt tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.
