3 held over Pir, his female disciple killing in Dinajpur

Police on Wednesday detained three people from Kurigram and Dinajpur districts in connection with the killing of a pir (religious group leader) and one of his female disciples.

News agency UNB Kurigram correspondent reports that Tipped off, a team of police raided the house of Esahaq Ali, 57, a self-styled Pir of Pathordubi village in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram district, around 4:30am and arrested him, said Menhajul Alam, additional superintendent of police of Kurigram.

The arrestee was handed over to Bochaganj police station of Dinajpur, the ASP added.

Two others Saidur Rahman, a khadem of Kadria Mohammadia Darbar Sharif, and his associate Samar Ali were arrested from Doula area in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur district at the dead of night of Wednesday, said Hamidul Alam, Dinajpur police superintendent.

Earlier on Monday evening, the religious group leader Farhad Hossain Chowdhury, 55, son of Aminul Islam Chowdhury of Doula village, and one of his female disciples Rupali Begum, 20, daughter of Hoser Ali of Madhabpur village, were shot to death and slaughtered by miscreants at a ‘shrine’ at Hatrampur in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur district.
Slain Farhad was also former president of Setabganj municipality unit of BNP, reports the UNB.
