Grenade hurled at cops from Moulvibazar ‘militant den’

Suspected militants hurled a grenade at police from a “hideout” in Moulvibazar Sadar upazila this morning as the law enforcers cordoned off two houses early today.

None was reported injured in the explosion, reports our correspondent quoting police.

Law enforcers have cordoned off a house in Borohat area under Sadar municipality and another in Sarker Bazar area under Khalilpur union suspecting militant dens, said Mohammad Shahjalal, superintendent of police in Moulvibazar.

Mohibul Islam, deputy commissioner of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star that militants hurled a grenade at the law enforcers from the town hideout this morning.

Members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit from Dhaka and police were conducting the drive, Mohibul said.
