Bagerhat trawler capsize death toll now 17

The death tolls in trawler capsize in the Panguchi River in Morelganj upazila rose to 17 as three more bodies were recovered from the river on Friday, reports news agency UNB.

The deceased have been identified as of Nasima Begum, wife of Jahid Hossain of Sharankhola upazila, Laboni Begum, 18, of Morelganj upazila and Nasrin Begum, 35, wife of Khalil Talukdar of Indurkani upazila in Pirojpur district.

A fire service team recovered the three bodies from different points of the river in the morning.

Earlier, members of Coast Guard, fire service, navy and police recovered nine bodies from the river on Wednesday, said Masud Sardar, a deputy director at Bangerhat Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Two children- Hasib, 6, and Rahat, 10, who had gone missing after the accident, are yet to be traced, said Rashedul Alam, officer-in-charge of Morelganj Police Station.

The trawler, carrying some 100 passengers, sank in the river on Tuesday morning while it was heading towards Purano thana ghat from Srombaria.
