Amu seeks UNIDO cooperation for modern technology based industry

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Sunday urged United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to extend technical cooperation to boost modern technology based industries in Bangladesh, reports BSS.
"Bangladesh will achieve 'Vision-2021' and 'Vision-2041', announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, through the flourishing of modern technology based industries," he said when a UNIDO delegation called on him at the industries ministry in the city, said an official release.
UNIDO Regional Office Chief Rene Van Berkel led the delegation. The regional office is for Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, they discussed different aspects of UNIDO's assistance for the development of industrial sector in Bangladesh.
UNIDO is an important development partner of Bangladesh, Amu said, adding that it is playing a vital role in developing an environment-friendly sustainable industrial sector in the country.
He said UNIDO can extend supports in various sectors including leather, auto-mobile, light engineering and agricultural products under its country programmes.
The UNIDO team expressed its interest to provide technological supports to leather and agro-based light engineering and automobile industrial sector in the country.
