Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today blamed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for patronising the organisations indulged in business centering religion.

“History says Khaleda Zia and her party is a faithful patron of religious traders,” Quader said while addressing a press conference at the AL Chief Sheikh Hasina’s political office in Dhanmondi.

Quader again claimed that his party did neither reach any deal with Hefajat-e-Islam nor forge any alliance with the religious based organisation but his government has recognised Qawmi madrasa, reports the Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

The government has initiated an effort to bring the Qawmi madrasa in the main structure of the country’s educational system but people have misunderstood, Quader said.

Qawmi madrasa will be modernised in a disciplined way for the sake of its 14 lakh students, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said.

He termed progressiveness as reality saying that no one can be progressive ignoring the reality.

He said after getting recognition, Hefajat Chief Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi on Friday at a rally came up heavily against the militancy. He (Shafi) has taken a strong stance against the militancy, Quader added.

Earlier, a group of people of Christian community met the AL leader to press home their demands including government holiday on Star Sunday.

Responding to the call, Quader said he would hold talk to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in this regard.
