Local airlines should seize potentialities: Tofail

Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed today said local airliners have to utilize the opportunities and potentialities prevailing for them in the country.

"They (airlines) have to build good reputation before the clients," opined the minister while addressing a seminar as chief guest in a city restaurant.

Aviation Operators Association of Bangladesh (AOAB) organized the seminar titled "Problems of Local Airlines and Potentialities".

Mentioning that the private carriers are yet to do good job, the commerce minister said: "Although many private carriers had started journey, but only three are in operation now. So, realistic decision is needed to keep running their operation without hindrance."

Tofail laid emphasis on the up-gradation of the services at airport similarly with developed countries so people are get world class services without any hassle.

Speaking on the occasion as special guest, civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon said there are immense potentialities for local carriers, but skilled manpower is required to seize the scope.

Menon also reveled initiative has been taken for separate universities to develop skill manpower.

With AOAB President Anjan Chowdhury in the chair, NOVOAIR managing director Mafizur Rahman made a keynote presentation while civil aviation and tourism secretary S M Golam Farooque, CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Ehsanul Gani Choudhury and AOAB secretary general Masudur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
