360 bags of rice for relief sink in Sunamganj

A boat with 360 bags of rice meant as relief for haor people capsized in the Surma river as a nor'wester lashed Sadar upazila in Sunamganj this morning.

The boat loaded with the sacks of rice was anchored in the river near a food godown in Mollikpur area, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Ishrat Jahan, upazila nirbahi officer in Sadar upazila.

The government had allocated these rice bags as relief for the flood-affected people of Rangarchar union in the upazila.

Early flashfloods recently submerged Boro crops on over two lakh hectares of land, and caused subsequent loss of livelihood, fish and livestock in the Sunamganj haor areas.
