Ruling Awami League's general secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said there would be 'many changes' in the alignment of Bangladesh politics before the next general elections.

He even hinted at an imminent change in the current cabinet headed by prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

"There may be change in cabinet because many days have elapsed... However, it's the jurisdiction of the prime minister," Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, told newsmen after the weekly cabinet meeting at the secretariat.

The ruling party leader was also 'surprised' at the formation of the new alliance by Jatiya Party chief and special emissary of the prime minister, former military dictator HM Ershad.

"After the 2014 general elections, Jatiya Party has no longer been a part of the grand alliance (led by Awami League). It's with the government of consensus, however," said Quader.

Gen Ershad's Jatiya Party is the official opposition party in parliament that was formed through the controversial elections on 5 January 2014, boycotted by all opposition parties including the BNP.

Dwelling on the Jatiya Party's new alliance, Quader said such alignment might come to an end only through the next general elections.

"There will be ups and downs, split and formation of new alliances. There is no last word in politics," he added.
