The Appellate division of the Supreme Court on Monday (May 15) extended the time more 2 weeks for publishing a gazette on disciplinary rules of lower court judges.

A seven-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order.

Earlier, Attorney general Mahbubey Alam on behalf of the state   filed an appeal seeking four more weeks to publish the gazette.

December 2 in 1999, a court verdict instructed to introduce a gazette in this regard.

On May 7 in 2016, the Ministry of Law submitted a draft of rules to the Supreme Court, following a direction from the Appellate Division.

However, the draft was not accepted to the Supreme Court during a hearing on August in 2016.

Later, the apex court sent a draft of rules to the ministry of law and asked to inform the court after legislating it.

On November 6, attorney general Mahbubey Alam on behalf of the state couldn’t inform about the progress in publishing the gazette, during a hearing at the court.

Then, he was asked to inform about the steps regarding finalizing the rules on   November 7.

Later, the attorney general sought time extension for several times.
